Mentorship

In advancing philanthropy through education, training and advocacy, the Central Florida Chapter aspires to the following:

• To promote fun through shared experience and practice.
• To promote collegial relationships between seasoned professionals and Mentees.
• To assist fundraising professionals in developing a network for professional guidance and creative fundraising.
• To strengthen the Mentees’ skills through identification and focus on specific areas of practice.
• To enhance the professional abilities of both the Mentor and Mentee through shared effort.
• To offer an adaptable, responsive and accountable program.
• To respect confidentiality.
• The program is not intended to provide free consulting services, but rather a way to have a professional fundraiser guide and advise you on challenges in your field as well as encourage you in your career.  Please read and follow the simple and short instructions below.

How to find a Mentor:

1. Be a member of AFP-CFL Complete the Mentee application and return it with your resume to mail@afpcentralflorida.org. 
2. A Mentorship Committee member will reach to you and share available mentors who match your interests and needs.  
3. Coordinate an initial meeting time with assigned mentor and work with them to establish goals and objectives for your mentoring relationship.
4. Identify specific areas of focus to work on with your Mentor to achieve personal growth in the profession.
5. Prepare questions and work for review in advance of meetings to make the most of the time.
6. Be respectful of all meeting dates and times scheduled.
7. Help the AFP Mentorship Chair support the program by completing an evaluation form and sharing outcomes of experience. 

Note: Relationships can be short-term or long-term depending on the goals and objectives of the mentee and mentor.

Mentee Application

How to become a Mentor:

1. Be a member of AFP-CFL and have a minimum of five years in the profession.
2. Complete the Mentor application below and return it with your resume to mail@afpcentralflorida.org.
3. A Mentorship Committee member will reach to you and share available mentees who match your interests and needs.  
4. Coordinate an initial meeting time with assigned mentor and work with them to establish goals and objectives for your mentoring relationship.
5. Provide guidance, wisdom and support to your Mentee that accelerates their learning process.
6. Help your Mentee set targets and support them in achieving those targets.
7. Support the Mentee in meeting their specific needs in their development as a fundraising professional.
8. Help the AFP Mentorship Chair support the program by completing an evaluation form and sharing outcomes of experience.
